Our Story
MISSION STATEMENT

At Home on Main Street passionately seeks useful, interesting, and earth-friendly products in the global, domestic and local environments.

Customer service is a top priority and we strive to create a unique and memorable experience for the online visitor.

PHILOSOPHIES

We love the popular quote by William Morris, (1834-96) the British craftsman, designer and a founding father of the Arts and Crafts movement in England:

Have Nothing In Your Homes
That You Do Not Know To Be
Useful Or Believe To Be Beautiful

This has been our philosophy from the beginning (October 2003). Since going earth-friendly (September 2008) we have raised the bar higher. We think this message is also good for other areas besides home accessories. Think about your clothing...does your closet have too many items that are not useful or beautiful? Consider organizing a clothing swap with your friends.

Here we are in 2010 and we still prefer functional, beautiful and useful items -- and we want them to be have a modern eco-sensibility.

We think William Morris' thoughts on home, spoken long ago, can still make our lives easier and a lot less stressful today.

Functional Beauty
Our buyer's checklist puts merchandise to the test before we write an order with a vendor or craftsperson. We have a strong commitment to our values and goals when seeking out new items for you to consider. It makes our buying trips a true adventure and ensures that we offer only the best earth-friendly products for you to select from.

OUR HISTORY
One summer day in 2003 an idea took form that led us to an available space on Main Street, in Fallbrook's Historic Downtown shopping district.

As our opening day grew closer we invited Michael Payne, from HGTV's Designing for the Sexes, for a Sunday afternoon presentation, book signing and spot of tea in Fallbrook.

What a kickoff! The store was packed and Michael was a wonderful guest. We were on our way.

My, how we have changed!
In early September, 2008 we reopened (after closing for 10 days) with our new buying mission. Since we were going green, we invited our favorite eco-celebrity, Ed Begley, Jr. to join us. He "wowed" the crowd with his great tips, easy-going style and sensibility. A book signing, organic wine, food and a really nice, funny and smart guest...what a day it was!

As we all know, the economy began a downward spiral in the fall of 2008 -- and by spring we knew we could not keep the shop open too much longer. We closed the Main Street store in June 2009. Now we're just focusing on the web site.
